PAMBUNGAL MADOM
Pambungal Madom is one of the most renowned
Vishnumaya temples located in the heart
of Kerala, in the picturesque Peramangalam village, Thrissur District. The main deity
worshipped at this sacred temple is Sree Vishnumaya Swami, and it is home to several other
revered deities, including Sree Hanuman Swami, Sree Rudhira Mala Bhagavathi,Sree Karinkali Amma, Sree Naga Devatas, and Sree KukshiKalpam.
Devotees from across South India visit the temple regularly, including followers from Tamil
Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telungana and other parts of India. The temple is
known for its spiritual harmony, welcoming people of all languages and backgrounds.
Currently, Brahmasree Unni Ragava Swamikal, affectionately known as Unni Swamikal, serves as
the Madathipathi (spiritual head) of the temple. The administration of the temple is
overseen by the Vishnumaya Madom Spiritual Foundation.
The temple hosts a variety of festivals
throughout the year, with the most notable being the annual Panthalaattam This grand celebration spans 41 days (Mandalakalam) and
is marked by elaborate rituals and devotion. Devotees from various religions and states
come together to partake in the festivities, culminating in the sacred Kalpana from
Sree Vishnumaya Swami.
The origins of Pambungal Madom can be traced back over 16 generations. The temple's spiritual legacy began with the renowned yogi Ollur Mutthappan, who imparted the devotional teachings of Vishnumaya Swami and the Upamoorthis to the Pambungal Madom family. The family began worshipping the Vishnumaya idol in the "Thekkini" (ancestral home) of their Tharavadu (ancestral family house).
In the 13th generation, the great spiritual leader Brahmasree Kutta Swamikal passed on the Mantra Deeksha (spiritual initiation) to his son, Brahmasree Maakku Swamikal. Maakku Swamikal was entrusted with the task of constructing a temple dedicated to Vishnumaya Swami. He succeeded in this endeavor by building the temple, laying the foundation for its continued spiritual significance.
Following Maakku Swamikal, his son Brahmasree Raghava Swamikal assumed the role of Madathipathi and carried on the sacred traditions. Today, the temple is guided by the wisdom of Brahmasree Unni Raghava Swamikal, who continues to lead the temple into the future with dedication and devotion.
